Residents of the provincial capital continue to face rising prices for essential commodities, as local vendors and shopkeepers ignore official price regulations. Despite efforts by the district administration to control costs, many sellers are charging consumers well above the government-mandated rates.
On Sunday, perishable items such as vegetables and chicken were being sold at inflated prices, causing frustration among buyers. Consumers reported that even low-quality produce was being priced higher than the rates set for premium items.

Chicken prices, which were officially reduced to Rs386-400 per kg, remain significantly higher in the market, with rates reaching Rs460-480 per kg. Chicken meat, priced at Rs580 per kg by the government, is being sold for up to Rs950 in some parts of the city.
The price of vegetables is also seeing large differences from the official rates. Potatoes, which should be priced at Rs49-53 per kg, are being sold for Rs60-100 per kg, while onions, officially set at Rs74-80 per kg, are being sold for Rs80-125 per kg across different areas.
