Australia’s Test and ODI captain, Pat Cummins, and his wife, Becky, have welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Edith Maria Boston Cummins. The couple shared the joyous news on social media.
Becky announced Edith’s arrival on Instagram, posting a heartfelt message alongside a picture of their newborn. “She’s here. Our beautiful baby girl, Edi. Words can’t describe how overjoyed & full of love we feel right now,” she wrote.

Cummins also shared a special moment, posting a photo of himself holding baby Edi during her first visit to the beach. “Edi’s first trip to the beach,” he captioned the Instagram story.
Cummins’ Absence from the Australian Squad
The birth of Cummins’ daughter coincided with his paternity leave, leading to his absence from Australia’s ongoing tour of Sri Lanka. Adding to this, Cummins has now been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to an ankle injury sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The pacer had bowled 167 overs in the Test series, claiming 25 wickets, but has struggled with the injury since then.
His withdrawal is a significant setback for Australia, as fellow fast bowler Josh Hazlewood and all-rounder Mitch Marsh are also unavailable due to injuries. Hazlewood has been managing a hip issue, while Marsh withdrew from the tournament due to a worsening back problem.
In another blow to the squad, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has announced his surprise retirement from ODI cricket, further depleting Australia’s options for the Champions Trophy, which is set to begin on February 19 in Pakistan.
With Cummins, Hazlewood, and Marsh sidelined, Mitchell Starc remains Australia’s only senior pacer in the preliminary squad. Selectors are expected to finalize the squad following the conclusion of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
