Nationwide Crackdown Launched Against Illegal Sale of Foreign SIM Cards

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing, has initiated a nationwide crackdown against individuals and businesses involved in the illegal sale of pre-activated foreign SIM cards. The raids, aimed at curbing telecom fraud and safeguarding national security, were conducted in multiple cities, including Abbottabad, Skardu, Peshawar, Lahore, and Sialkot.

According to a statement by PTA, the coordinated operations specifically targeted those engaged in the unauthorized distribution of foreign SIM cards, which were reportedly being used for fraudulent activities, unverified communications, and other criminal operations. Several suspects were arrested during the raids, and a significant number of illegally activated SIM cards were seized.

Authorities highlighted that the sale of these unverified SIM cards poses a serious threat to public security, as they allow for anonymous and untraceable communications, which can be exploited for criminal purposes. PTA and FIA emphasized the importance of regulating telecom practices to ensure the safety of the public.

The agencies have reiterated their commitment to monitoring and preventing the illegal trade of SIM cards, warning that strict action will be taken against those found violating telecom regulations in the future.
