An elementary school teacher in her 40s has confessed to fatally stabbing an eight-year-old girl at a school in Daejeon, South Korea, in an attack that has left the nation in shock. The tragic incident occurred on Monday, with the child found with stab wounds on the second floor of the school around 6:00 PM local time. She was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
The teacher, who was found injured beside the girl, is believed to have self-inflicted the wounds. She remains hospitalized and will be interrogated after recovering from surgery. South Korea’s acting president, Choi Sang-mok, has ordered an investigation and called for immediate measures to prevent similar incidents, expressing deep sorrow for the victim’s family.

The teacher had previously requested a leave of absence due to depression but returned to work after just 20 days. She reportedly had no prior relationship with the student and had exhibited violent behavior shortly before the attack.
