PIA Grounds Multiple Aircraft Due to Spare Parts Shortage

PIA Grounds Multiple Aircraft Due to Spare Parts Shortage

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is grappling with a severe operational crisis as multiple aircraft remain grounded due to a shortage of essential spare parts.

According to sources, only 19 of the airlineโ€™s 34 aircraft, including Airbus, Boeing, and ATR models, are currently in service, while the rest are non-operational.

The crisis has intensified due to PIAโ€™s inability to procure critical spare parts, including aircraft engines, in a timely manner. In an effort to keep some planes functional, the airline has reportedly resorted to cannibalizing parts from grounded aircraft to maintain operational ones.

Despite these challenges, PIA continues to pay millions of dollars in lease payments to international companies for aircraft that are not in use. The prolonged grounding of several planes has further exacerbated the airlineโ€™s already precarious financial situation.
