Sindh Government Announces Scholarships to Oxford University Under Benazir Bhutto Programme

In a major stride toward empowering students through education, the Sindh government has announced scholarships for six deserving students to pursue higher education at Oxford University. This initiative is part of the Benazir Bhutto Graduate Scholarship programme, which aims to support academically talented individuals in their quest for knowledge abroad.

The announcement was made following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in London. The ceremony was attended by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peopleโ€™s Party (PPP), who spoke passionately about the role of education in empowering youth. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah revealed that the scholarships would be granted annually to three male and three female students from Sindh, with support from Oxford Pakistan.

โ€œThese scholarships are part of our long-term commitment to promoting higher education for the deserving youth of Sindh,โ€ stated Chief Minister Shah. The programme focuses on academic fields such as science, technology, and engineering, aligning with the provinceโ€™s goal to nurture future leaders in critical sectors.

During his visit to Oxford, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari reflected on the legacy of his mother, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, whose dedication to Pakistan’s progress remains an inspiration. He reiterated that the future of Pakistan is intrinsically tied to values such as constitutional supremacy, an independent judiciary, and the freedom of the press.

In addition to the Oxford initiative, the Sindh government has approved over 3,000 new scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year through the Sindh Education Endowment Fund. These scholarships aim to provide opportunities for talented and financially challenged students across the province.

Chief Minister Shah also highlighted the government’s efforts to improve safety in Karachi, assuring that steps are being taken under the Safe City Program to enhance security in the bustling metropolis.
