Behroze Sabzwari Blames Girls and Their Families for Rising Divorces

Veteran Pakistani actor Behroze Sabzwari has sparked controversy with his remarks on the rising divorce rate, holding women and their families responsible for most separations. Speaking on Madeha Naqvi’s morning show Subh Ka Samaa alongside his wife, Safeena Sheikh, he expressed concerns over modern marriage dynamics.

Sabzwari criticized the lavish weddings that end in quick divorces, blaming excessive pampering by parents. He argued that families treat their daughters like queens, leading them to believe they have full control in marriage. “Parents tell their daughters, ‘Live like a queen; we’ve spent millions on your wedding,’” he remarked, implying this attitude creates unrealistic expectations.

Safeena Sheikh, in contrast, took a more balanced stance, pointing out miscommunication and unrealistic expectations as major factors behind failed marriages. She emphasized the need for simplicity in weddings to avoid unnecessary pressure.

Sabzwari also noted that many young people rush into love marriages, mistaking infatuation for lasting commitment. Interestingly, his own son, Shehroze Sabzwari, went through a public divorce with actress Syra Yousuf before remarrying model Sadaf Kanwal, raising speculation about whether his views stem from personal experiences.
