PIA's Missing Landing Gear Wheel Found at Karachi Airport

The missing landing gear wheel of a PIA flight that detached during takeoff from Karachi has been located at Jinnah International Airport. The wheel, which went unnoticed during the flight, was discovered by technicians near the II Chundrigar Hangar, close to a grounded Boeing 777.

The Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA) confirmed that no casualties or financial damage resulted from the incident. However, the wheel’s detachment and delayed detection after the plane landed in Lahore has raised concerns about aviation safety standards.

PIA’s engineering team, alongside aviation authorities, is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the incident. Preliminary findings suggest the detachment could be linked to maintenance issues, manufacturing defects, or material fatigue.

Airbus, the aircraft manufacturer, has also initiated a detailed technical investigation, requesting flight data, maintenance history, and a full assessment of the landing gear system to prevent such incidents in the future.
