Multan Sultans’ owner, Ali Khan Tareen, has voiced his frustration over the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) decision to feature Ali Zafar as the performer for the league’s 10th edition anthem. In an Instagram post, Tareen questioned the lack of diversity in the selection of artists, expressing concerns about the repeated reliance on Zafar despite objections from franchise owners.

Tareen remarked, “Pakistan has so many amazing artists. Yet almost half of our anthems have been given to the same middle-aged dude,” hinting at PSL’s failure to introduce fresh voices and questioning how this fits into the vision of making PSL’s 10th edition the biggest yet.

The decision to feature Zafar once again has drawn attention due to his previous performances of PSL anthems, including “Ab Khel Ke Dikha” (2016), “Ab Khel Jamay Ga” (2017), “Dil Se Jaan Laga De” (2018), and his 2024 return with “Khul Ke Khel” after facing legal battles with singer Meesha Shafi.
Tareen’s comments highlight a broader dissatisfaction among PSL franchises, who have reportedly advocated for more diversity in artist selection. Despite the criticism, the PSL management has not hinted at any plans to change their choice, and a release date for Zafar’s anthem remains pending ahead of the tournament’s April 11 start.
