To test the hype, an image of 11 watermelons was analyzed using an AI tool prompted with, “Which one looks the juiciest?” The AI selected watermelon number 5. When purchased and sliced, the fruit proved exceptionally juicy, seemingly validating the AI’s choice.

However, the experiment also revealed mixed outcomes from other melons in the same batch. Experts caution that while AI can make educated guesses based on visuals, picking a watermelon typically relies on factors like sound, weight, and texture—things a photo can’t capture.
