As tensions continue to rise between India and Pakistan, former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has stepped forward with a heartfelt appeal for peace, cautioning against dragging sports into the escalating conflict. In a public statement, Afridi emphasized that sports transcend national borders, religion, and politics, and should never be used to fuel hostilities.
“Today, the game itself is under attack,” Afridi lamented, pointing to recent disruptions in regional cricket. He highlighted the relocation of the PSL to Dubai, the suspension of the IPL, and even incidents like the reported drone sighting near Rawalpindi Stadium as evidence that cricket, once a symbol of unity, is now caught in geopolitical crossfire.

Criticizing Indian media’s sensationalism, Afridi remarked, “Their coverage sounds more like Cartoon Network than serious journalism,” drawing attention to the exaggerated narratives inflaming public sentiment.
Concluding his message, Afridi called on leaders and citizens from both sides to safeguard the spirit of sports. “Don’t use the game as fuel for war. Let’s protect what unites us,” he urged, reinforcing cricket’s potential to build bridges rather than barriers.
