Sri Lanka Restores Eyesight to Over 25,000 Pakistanis in Landmark Humanitarian Mission

Sri Lanka has successfully performed over 25,000 free corneal transplants across Pakistan through a humanitarian initiative that has not only restored the vision of thousands but also strengthened diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In an interview with Pakistanโ€™s state news agency APP, Mr. Yasin Joyia, Honorary Consul General of Sri Lanka in Pakistan, described the project as a remarkable example of โ€œCorneal Diplomacyโ€โ€”a form of diplomacy that fosters international connections through compassion and medical assistance.

Joyia emphasized that true leadership is reflected in serving others, and this initiative illustrates how humanitarian efforts can build mutual understanding and enduring friendship between Islamabad and Colombo.

He noted the broader impact of people-centered diplomacy, stating that philanthropy often succeeds where formal agreements fall short. โ€œKindness and empathy have the power to transform global relations,โ€ he remarked. โ€œThis initiative highlights the strength of diplomacy based on human connection.โ€

The program, organized by the Sri Lanka Eye Bank with support from the Sri Lanka Pakistan Friendship Association, has gained international acclaim as a model of compassionate diplomacy. Joyia shared that several countries have expressed interest in adopting similar programs, recognizing its success in meeting medical needs while fostering goodwill worldwide.

He called the initiative a beacon of hope, demonstrating that even amid uncertainty, nations can unite through shared values of care, cooperation, and compassion. Joyia confirmed that the mission will continue to expand, aiming to help more people and encourage others to contribute toward meaningful change.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to the Sri Lanka Eye Bank and the Sri Lanka Pakistan Friendship Association for their steadfast commitment to the cause.

This ongoing partnership serves as a powerful example of how humanitarian aid can transform lives and redefine international diplomatic relations.
