For the first time in HBL PSL history, Peshawar Zalmi has failed to qualify for the playoffs, sparking a strong reaction from team owner Javed Afridi. The franchise, led by Babar Azam, managed only four wins in ten matches and ended the season with just 8 points.
In a post on X, Afridi called the season’s outcome “painful” but reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding. “Major changes are coming—we’ll rebuild with grit and purpose. InshaAllah,” he stated, promising fans a stronger comeback.

Zalmi’s playoff hopes were crushed after a rain-shortened defeat against Lahore Qalandars in Rawalpindi. With a net run-rate of -0.293, it marked a rare fall for one of PSL’s most consistent sides.
Despite the setback, Afridi announced ambitious plans to expand fan engagement, including new Fan Parks and Zalmi zones inside stadiums. He stressed that the team represents more than cricket—calling it a movement.
With a focus on talent development and restructuring, Afridi has made it clear: Zalmi may have stumbled, but the Yellow Storm is far from over.
