Wagah Border Parade Resumes Amid Lingering Tensions

India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has resumed the iconic beating retreat parade at the Wagah-Attari border after a 12-day pause caused by rising tensions with Pakistan. The suspension, initiated on May 7, was a rare move that disrupted the long-standing daily ritual.

During the hiatus, Pakistan’s Punjab Rangers continued their side of the ceremony, drawing local and tourist attention. On Monday, the full parade resumed on both sides, reinstating a symbol of national pride and border discipline.

Despite the return of ceremonial drills, the usual handshake between BSF and Rangers was notably absent, and the border gates remained shut throughout. This absence of interaction signals that diplomatic strains between the two nations have not fully eased.

The Wagah parade, known for its synchronized showmanship and fervent national spirit, remains a key tourist attraction and a barometer of India-Pakistan relations.
