Karachi Braces for Extreme Temperatures as PMD Issues Heatwave Warning

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that Karachi will face a further spike in temperatures today, with the mercury expected to reach around 40°C.

The port city is likely to endure “extremely hot and humid” conditions, intensifying the discomfort for residents. Elevated humidity levels are set to make it feel even hotter than the actual temperature.

On Saturday, Karachi recorded a high of 37.6°C, but the heat index — or the “feels-like” temperature — soared 6 to 8 degrees higher due to humidity.

Meteorologists cautioned that such weather conditions could be hazardous, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with health issues. The public has been strongly advised to stay indoors during peak sunlight hours, remain well-hydrated, and avoid direct exposure to the sun.

Authorities have also been called upon to implement safety measures, including ensuring access to drinking water and emergency medical support in public spaces, particularly during the afternoon when heat levels peak.
