A 59-year-old tourist was killed by a lion in northwest Namibia while on a camping trip with a group of fellow travelers, officials confirmed.
The fatal attack occurred early in the morning when the man stepped out of his tent to use the toilet. “The lion pounced the moment he exited,” said environment ministry spokesperson Ndeshipanda Hamunyela.

Despite efforts from others to scare the lion away, the victim died on the spot. Authorities are now investigating the incident.
The area is known for desert-adapted lions, but their numbers have recently declined due to drought and increased human-wildlife conflict.
