A prominent Karachi businessman, Salman Farooqi, has been arrested after a shocking video showed him assaulting a motorcyclist in the Defence area, sparking widespread outrage on social media.
The incident took place after a minor accident near Ittihad Commercial, where Farooqi was seen physically attacking the victim and allegedly forcing him into a car at gunpoint with the help of his armed guard. Eyewitnesses reported that the victim’s female companions were also harassed and threatened during the confrontation.

Police tracked Farooqi using his mobile phone’s location and arrested him near Khayaban-e-Zulfiqar. His luxury vehicle was later recovered from a friend’s house. A formal FIR has been registered at Gizri Police Station, naming Farooqi, his guard, and others for assault, abduction, intimidation, and unlawful confinement.
Authorities have detained the guard and another suspect as investigations continue. Despite public apologies from Farooqi’s family, police say further arrests may follow as evidence builds.
