Pakistan Appointed Co-Chair of UNSC Counter-Terrorism Committee

Pakistan has been designated as the co-chair of the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) Counter-Terrorism Committee for 2025, with Algeria taking the role of Chair.

Additionally, Pakistan will lead the Security Council’s Sanctions Committee on the Taliban, which monitors the enforcement of sanctions including asset freezes, travel restrictions, and arms embargoes on Taliban-affiliated individuals and groups.

Furthermore, Pakistan has been appointed co-chair of the UN Informal Working Group on Sanctions, tasked with reviewing and enhancing the effectiveness of the UN’s sanctions framework.

These roles highlight Pakistan’s active participation in the UN system and acknowledge its significant contributions to global counter-terrorism efforts.

This achievement also marks a diplomatic success for Pakistan, as it effectively overcame opposition from India to secure this key international position.
