As scorching temperatures grip Punjab, the province has seen a surge in forest fire incidents. However, swift response efforts by the Punjab Forest Department under its Fire Emergency Response System have so far prevented any major losses.
On June 10 alone, three fires broke out in Murree and Attock districts — specifically in the Sumbli, Kotli, and Attock Khurd forests. Prompt action by trained staff helped contain the blazes quickly, limiting the damage to just 3.5 acres of undergrowth and grass.

Officials also reported earlier fires in Kotli Sattian’s Karor Forest and the Lehtarar communal forests, both of which were controlled in time. Meanwhile, a more serious blaze last month in Muhammad Khan Forest destroyed 50 mature trees and wild plantations across 7–10 acres.
The Forest Department remains on high alert and has urged the public to avoid lighting fires or smoking near forested areas. As temperatures continue to climb, the risk of wildfires remains a pressing concern for both authorities and residents.
