Shaheen Afridi Eyes Big Bash Glory, Targets Top Wickets

Pakistan’s pace ace Shaheen Shah Afridi is all set to light up the 15th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) with his trademark aggression and high-voltage performances. Representing Brisbane Heat this season, Afridi expressed excitement about the prospect of facing top-tier batters including Babar Azam, Steve Smith, and David Warner.

Speaking in a recent podcast, the 25-year-old left-arm pacer refused to choose one prized wicket over the others. “For me, it’s all three,” he said with a smile. “They’re key players for their teams, and I’d love to dismiss each of them.”

Afridi welcomed the increasing participation of Pakistani players in the BBL, noting that six or seven of his compatriots would feature this season. He believes this will boost fan engagement, especially among the Pakistani diaspora in Australia. “The crowd, especially Pakistani fans, will enjoy it whenever we face Babar, Rizwan, and others. Hopefully, we can put on a good show,” he added.

Renowned for his fiery first-over strikes and animated celebrations, Shaheen is determined to deliver early breakthroughs. “It will be even more special if I get a wicket in the first over again,” he said, adding that crowd support — whether from Pakistani or Australian fans — will fuel his performance. He also praised Babar Azam, calling him one of the most consistent batters in the world.
