Government Approves Import of 500,000 Tons of Sugar to Curb Prices

In a move aimed at stabilizing sugar prices and addressing supply shortages, the Sugar Advisory Board on Monday approved the import of 500,000 tons of sugar. The decision comes amid growing concerns over rising costs and dwindling domestic availability.

Food Security Minister Rana Tanvir Hussain, who chaired the board meeting, said that all necessary formalities for the import will be completed within the next few days. He emphasized that the import had become essential to restore market balance and provide relief to consumers.

โ€œThere is a shortage of sugar supply across the country; therefore, immediate steps have been taken to control the shortage,โ€ the minister stated. He assured that the imported sugar would be released into the market soon.

Authorities expect that the influx of imported sugar will help ease consumer prices and prevent further inflationary pressure on essential food items.
