Major Muiz Abbas Shah was martyred during an intelligence-based operation against Indian-backed Khawarij militants in South Waziristan. The same operation resulted in the killing of 11 militants and injuries to seven others. Another soldier, Lance Naik Jabranullah, was also martyred during the fierce gun battle.

Major Muiz, aged 37 and a native of Chakwal, had served in the Pakistan Army for 14 years. He was highly respected for his leadership and heroism. Notably, he was the officer before whom Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman surrendered after being captured in February 2019. Recalling the moment, Major Muiz once shared that the pilot identified himself and asked for protection upon seeing his rank, which Muiz ensured as his professional duty.

Major Muiz is survived by his wife and two sons. Lance Naik Jabranullah, a 27-year-old soldier from Bannu who had served for eight years, leaves behind a wife and three children.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the efforts of the security forces and honored the sacrifices of the martyred soldiers. They emphasized that the entire nation stands united with its armed forces and that the sacrifices of these brave men will never be forgotten.

Pakistan’s security forces reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to eliminate terrorism and safeguard the country’s peace and sovereignty.
