In a move to ensure peace during Muharram, the Punjab Home Department has launched a Cyber Patrol and Quick Response Cell dedicated to real-time monitoring of social media for sectarian and provocative content. This is the first such initiative in the province aimed at curbing digital hate speech during sensitive religious periods.

The cell, functioning under the Home Department’s supervision, has been tasked with identifying fake news, inflammatory posts, and objectionable material that could disturb public order. Officials confirmed that all flagged content will be sent to the Special Branch for verification and necessary action.

A spokesperson for the department said that efforts are also underway to collaborate with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Ministry of Interior to block harmful content swiftly. Legal proceedings will be initiated against those responsible for spreading hate online.

The Special Branch has also been assigned the responsibility of tracing the origins of such posts and coordinating content takedowns. The government hopes the initiative will help contain digital provocations and maintain religious harmony during Muharram.
