Govt Announces Big Increase in Petrol and Diesel Prices from July 1

The federal government has announced another increase in fuel prices, with the revised rates taking effect from Tuesday, July 1. Petrol will now cost Rs266.79 per litre, reflecting a rise of Rs8.36 per litre.

In a similar move, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been raised by Rs10.39 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs277.98. Officials have also confirmed the imposition of a carbon levy of Rs2.50 per litre on both petrol and diesel.

This marks the second fuel price hike in just over two weeks. On June 15, the government had previously raised petrol prices by Rs4.80 and diesel by Rs7.95 per litre, effective from June 16.

At that time, petrol was priced at Rs258.43 per litre, while high-speed diesel was set at Rs262.59 per litre. The Finance Ministry has issued a formal notification confirming the latest revisions in petroleum prices.
