Lahore Airport Runway to Close Daily for Bird Activity Precautions

The Pakistan Airports Authority has announced a temporary daily closure of the runway at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport due to increased bird activity during early morning hours. The decision, aimed at enhancing flight safety, will remain in effect until September 15, 2025.

As per a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued on Tuesday, the runway will be unavailable for operations from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. daily. These hours coincide with peak bird movement, which poses potential risks to aircraft during takeoff and landing.

Authorities emphasized that the closure is a preventive measure to avoid bird strikes, which have historically caused damage to aircraft and disruptions to flight schedules.

However, the notice also clarifies that in emergency situations, pilots may still use the runway at their discretion, subject to air traffic control clearance.
