Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota has died in a tragic car accident in Spain. He was 28 years old. The crash happened just two weeks after he married his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso.
Jota was driving a Lamborghini with his younger brother, André, when the car veered off the road. Both brothers died on the spot.
The accident took place on the A-52 highway near Cernadilla, in the Zamora province of northern Spain. Reports suggest the car’s tyre may have burst while overtaking. This caused the vehicle to crash and burst into flames.
Emergency services in the Castilla y León region responded quickly. However, the fire had already engulfed the car by the time help arrived. Both men were declared dead at the scene.
Diogo Jota had recently spoken in an interview, calling himself “the luckiest man in the world” after marrying the mother of his three children. The couple had celebrated their wedding just 14 days before the crash.

Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the accident. However, early reports point to a mechanical failure involving the tyre.
The A-52 highway is a busy route often used by drivers travelling between northern Portugal and Spain. It is known for its sharp turns and high-speed traffic.

Diogo Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He quickly became a key player under manager Jürgen Klopp. Known for his sharp finishing and tireless work ethic, he was loved by fans and teammates alike.
The football world is in shock over his sudden death. Liverpool FC has not yet released an official statement but is expected to do so soon.
