Police Arrest Father from Throwing Children Off Lahore Bridge

Police Stop Father from Throwing Children Off Lahore Bridge

In a disturbing incident on Friday, police officers on protocol duty in Lahore’s Dharampura area prevented a man from throwing his three children off a bridge. The timely intervention saved the children’s lives and led to the immediate arrest of the suspect.

The officers were deployed in the area as part of security arrangements for Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who was scheduled to pass through the Dharampura underpass shortly afterward. The chief minister was in the vicinity to inspect the implementation of a ban on swimming in the canal.

Identified as Tasawwar Abbas, a resident of Jhang, the man was reportedly driven by personal distress. Police said his wife had left him due to his drug addiction and unemployment. Allegedly, Abbas tried to use his financial situation as justification for the shocking act.

The children—a three-year-old girl and two boys aged six and ten—were rescued and handed over to the Child Protection Bureau. Authorities have registered a case of attempted murder against Abbas and assured that the children’s safety will be prioritized moving forward.
