Punjab Government Makes Fitness Certificates Mandatory for Motorcycles

The Punjab government has made fitness certificates mandatory for all motorcycles, aiming to improve road safety and reduce pollution. Under a recent legal amendment, every motorcycle must undergo a technical check to receive a one-year fitness certificate.

This step is part of the government’s broader effort to ensure safer roads and cleaner air across the province. According to officials, motorcycles without valid fitness certificates will not be allowed on public roads. Strict action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the new rule.

The Transport Department has urged motorcycle owners to get their bikes tested regularly. Officials say well-maintained vehicles not only reduce the risk of accidents but also help control harmful emissions.

The initiative is expected to play a key role in reducing environmental damage caused by old and poorly maintained motorcycles. It also supports Punjab’s wider strategy for enhancing transport regulations and encouraging responsible vehicle ownership.

In addition to this, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is offering free emission tests for all types of vehicles. Vehicles that pass the test are given a green sticker, valid for one year, which is pasted on the windscreen.

The move to enforce fitness certificates is seen as a major step towards modernizing Punjab’s transport system. Officials believe it will not only cut down on road accidents but also lower pollution levels in urban areas.

The public is encouraged to cooperate by getting their vehicles inspected and certified on time. Authorities have made it clear that enforcement will be strict, with fines or other penalties for violators.

By making fitness certificates compulsory, the Punjab government aims to protect both people and the environment. Regular checks are now a legal requirement for all motorcycles operating in the province.
