Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was reportedly injured during an Israeli airstrike on a secret underground facility in Tehran last month. According to Iran’s state-affiliated Fars news agency, the incident occurred on June 16 while the president was attending an emergency meeting of the Supreme National Security Council.
Reports say six bombs struck the access and entry points of the hidden facility, trapping many inside. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian suffered minor leg injuries while escaping through an emergency shaft. The attack also cut electricity and disabled the facility’s ventilation system.
The strike took place during a 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel. Social media videos showed repeated airstrikes on a mountain in north-western Tehran. It has now been confirmed that one of these attacks targeted the facility where Iran’s top leaders, including Pezeshkian, were gathered.
Iran believes Israeli intelligence may have infiltrated their security systems. The investigation is ongoing, but Israel has not officially commented on the reports. The Fars news agency’s claims have yet to be independently verified.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently accused Israel of attempting to assassinate him, though Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz denied this, stating regime change was never the goal.
The attack on June 13 by Israel reportedly focused on nuclear and military sites to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Iran has denied such intentions, insisting its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. In response, Iran launched aerial strikes against Israeli targets.
On June 22, U.S. forces also carried out air and missile strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. President Donald Trump later claimed the U.S. had “obliterated” the sites, though American intelligence agencies remain cautious in their assessments.
These events have raised serious questions about how Israel obtained precise intelligence on Iran’s top officials and hidden military sites.
