Buckingham Palace has announced plans for “the largest-ever” display of Queen Elizabeth’s outfits, set to open in spring 2026. This exhibition will commemorate what would have been Queen Elizabeth’s 100th birthday, showcasing her distinctive fashion that influenced generations worldwide.
The exhibition will be hosted at the King’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace and organized by the Royal Collection Trust. It will feature over 200 outfits worn by Queen Elizabeth throughout her reign, with nearly half of these pieces being displayed for the first time. The collection includes iconic dresses, evening gowns, and accessories, offering a comprehensive look at her unique sense of style.
Among the star pieces is Queen Elizabeth’s wedding dress, designed by British designer Norman Hartnell. The gown, which cost $42,000 in 1947 (equivalent to $1.6 million today), featured intricate embroidery and 10,000 pearl accents, making it the most expensive bridal gown ever worn by a royal bride. The dress also included a 13-foot silk tulle train, which became one of the defining features of the royal wedding.
In addition to the wedding dress, the exhibition will also showcase Queen Elizabeth’s coronation gown, designed by Hartnell, as well as her favorite accessories, including head scarves. Visitors will gain insight into her long reign, with many of the garments reflecting her personal connection to fashion and the British fashion industry.
Caroline de Guitaut, the exhibit’s curator, noted that Queen Elizabeth’s style became instantly recognizable worldwide, helping to boost the British fashion industry. A book titled Queen Elizabeth II: Fashion and Style will accompany the exhibit, providing a deeper look at the queen’s fashion legacy.
