With the arrival of Eid-al-Adha, the joyous festivities are accompanied by the tradition of sacrificing animals and indulging in meat-based meals. Dr. Israr-ul-Haq Toor, Associate Professor of Medicine at LGH, highlights that uncontrolled intake of red meat can result in increased cholesterol and blood pressure levels. Moreover, it is associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, uric acid problems, and joint pain. Therefore, it is crucial for individuals to be mindful of their meat intake and avoid overindulgence.

To ensure a healthier approach to meat consumption, Dr. Muhammad Masood advises the public to ensure that meat is properly cooked, as thorough cooking enhances digestibility. He also suggests incorporating vegetables and using light spices when preparing meat dishes, as this can contribute to a more balanced and nutritious meal.

Dr. Laila Shafiq, a Gynecologist at LGH, acknowledges the benefits of red meat for specific groups such as pregnant women and individuals with low iron levels. Red meat plays a role in enhancing red blood cell production and provides essential vitamin B12 to the body, making it particularly beneficial for these populations.

While Eid-al-Adha is a time of celebration and feasting, it is important to prioritize health and adopt moderation in consuming meat. By being mindful of portion sizes, cooking methods, and overall dietary balance, individuals can enjoy the festivities while safeguarding their well-being.
