Iranian President to Begin First Official Visit to Pakistan Today

Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Pakistan for a two-day official visit starting Saturday. This is his first visit since taking office.

He is visiting at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Iranian president is joined by a high-level delegation. This includes Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, other cabinet members, and senior officials.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the visit marks a major step in building stronger ties between the two countries. Both sides will discuss political, economic, and regional issues.

President Pezeshkian is expected to meet Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari. He will also hold formal talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The talks will focus on trade, border security, and regional peace. The ongoing crisis in Gaza will also be discussed.

Ahead of the visit, Islamabad was decorated with national flags and welcome banners. Security has been tightened throughout the capital.

The Foreign Office said this visit could add “a new dimension” to ties between the two brotherly nations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last visited Iran in May 2025. Now, the Iranian president is in Pakistan to continue that dialogue.

Iran’s political adviser, Mehdi Sanai, said the visit also includes meetings with cultural and business leaders. He stressed the importance of cooperation in religious, economic, and cultural areas.

Currently, trade between Iran and Pakistan stands at about $3 billion. Both countries aim to increase this figure and improve ties in their border regions.

This is the second visit by an Iranian president in two years. The previous leader, Ebrahim Raisi, visited Pakistan in April 2024 before his tragic death in a helicopter crash.

President Pezeshkian’s visit comes at a tense time for the region. Iran’s recent conflict with Israel and global pressure have pushed Tehran to focus more on regional cooperation.

Pakistan has welcomed the visit and hopes it will lead to stronger economic and diplomatic partnerships.
