The murder of senior lawyer Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam has taken a dramatic new turn as the accused, Imran Afridi, admitted to committing the crime in a video statement.
The tragic incident occurred yesterday outside the Quran Academy in Karachi’s Khayaban-e-Rahat area, a well-known upscale locality. Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam was fatally shot while putting on his shoes after attending a funeral prayer with his son, Daniyal Islam.
A case has been registered at the Darakhshan police station under various charges, including murder and terrorism. The case was filed by the deceased’s brother, Khawaja Faiz-ul-Islam.
Following the accused’s confession, police have confirmed that the legal process is ongoing, and further investigations are underway.
In his video confession, Imran Afridi stated that the murder was the result of a longstanding dispute with Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam. Afridi accused Shams-ul-Islam of abducting, torturing, and killing his elderly father, which led to intense resentment between the families.
The two were also involved in a financial dispute concerning a sum of 35 Lac rupees, which further strained their relationship.
Afridi also claimed that after the death of his father, his family faced numerous false legal charges filed by Shams-ul-Islam. He specifically accused Shams-ul-Islam of framing his brothers with fake terrorism charges and dragging women from his family into unnecessary legal complications, despite their lack of involvement.
Expressing his frustration with the justice system, Afridi revealed that he had not received any legal relief, which ultimately led him to take matters into his own hands.
In his confession, he emphasized that he acted alone in the murder and requested law enforcement agencies not to harass his family or friends in connection with the case.
The murder of Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam has shocked the legal community, and as investigations continue, the public awaits further updates on the case.
