OpenAI has officially released GPT-5, the most advanced version of its AI language model, and made it free for all ChatGPT users. The announcement came during a livestream hosted by CEO Sam Altman, highlighting major improvements in reasoning, accuracy, and personalization.
According to OpenAI, GPT-5 marks a significant step toward transforming ChatGPT into a true digital assistant. It can adapt to user preferences, handle complex tasks, and understand context more effectively than previous versions.
Smarter and More Accurate Responses
One of the biggest advancements in GPT-5 is its improved reasoning ability. The model can break down complex prompts into smaller parts and process them in parallel. This reduces mistakes and ensures answers are more context-aware. Tests show its hallucination rate is only 4.8%, compared to GPT-4o’s 20.6%.
In healthcare-related queries, GPT-5 performs even better, with just 1.6% hallucination on the HealthBench test. It also informs users when it lacks enough information, increasing trust and reliability.
New Features for Users
GPT-5 introduces several upgrades, including “vibe coding,” which lets developers describe a feeling or experience and receive fully functional HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code. Performance benchmarks show it leads in coding accuracy, scoring 74.9% on SWE-bench Verified.
Users can also choose from different chatbot personalities such as Cynic, Listener, Nerd, and Robot. The updated Voice Mode delivers more natural speech, with tone and pacing that adapt to requests. Free users get limited daily access, while Pro subscribers enjoy longer usage.
Integration and Accessibility
Pro subscribers can now connect ChatGPT to Gmail, Google Calendar, and Contacts, enabling scheduling, email drafting, and contact searches without extra prompts. OpenAI assures that only necessary data is accessed.
GPT-5 is available in three sizes: full, mini, and nano (API only). Free users start with the full version and shift to mini after usage limits, while Pro users have unlimited access.
