A majority of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers have expressed support for the return of Sher Afzal Marwat to the party. The discussion took place during a consultative meeting at Parliament House, sources revealed on Friday.
Senior PTI leaders, including Barrister Gohar, Shehryar Afridi, Asad Qaiser, and Dr Nisar Jatt, backed Marwat’s reinstatement. However, they suggested that he should avoid publicly criticising the party’s leadership.
Members also stressed that a positive environment should be established before forwarding a formal recommendation to the party founder.
Sher Afzal Marwat has confirmed his willingness to rejoin PTI. In an interview with Samaa TV, he stated that while he could not tolerate personal criticism, he would now exercise caution in the future. “I am grateful to those members who wish to see me back in the party,” Marwat said.
According to Dr Azeemuddin Zahid Lakhvi, most PTI members believe that Marwat’s presence strengthens the party and that he should remain in its ranks.
The move to reinstate Marwat reflects PTI’s ongoing efforts to consolidate its leadership and maintain internal unity. The party has faced several internal challenges in recent months, making reconciliation between senior figures an important priority.
Observers say that bringing Marwat back could help PTI improve its internal cohesion ahead of upcoming political activities. Party leaders have emphasised the need for teamwork and mutual respect to present a united front to the public.
As discussions continue, it remains to be seen when a formal decision will be made. However, the overwhelming support from PTI’s National Assembly members suggests that Sher Afzal Marwat’s return is likely.
