Abdul Qadir Gilani, son of Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, was reportedly robbed of a luxury wristwatch during his visit to Barcelona, Spain.
According to reports, an unidentified thief snatched the expensive timepiece while Gilani was on a leisure trip. The stolen watch is estimated to be worth €56,000, which is approximately Rs18.5 million.
Abdul Qadir Gilani, who has been a member of the National Assembly since February 2024, has not made a public statement regarding the incident. Local police have been informed, and an investigation is currently underway.
The robbery has raised concerns over street crimes targeting tourists in major European cities, including those with public profiles. Barcelona, known for its attractions, has also faced a growing reputation for pickpocketing and theft in busy tourist areas.
Before entering the National Assembly, Abdul Qadir Gilani served as a member of the Punjab Provincial Assembly from June 2008 to July 2012. Representing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), he contested from Multan, a political stronghold of the Gilani family.
Yousaf Raza Gilani, a senior PPP leader and current Senate Chairman, has not issued an official comment about the theft. The incident adds to broader concerns about the safety of high-profile individuals traveling abroad.
Authorities in Barcelona are continuing their investigation, but no arrests have been reported so far. Tourists are being advised to remain cautious, avoid displaying valuable items in public, and stay alert in crowded areas.
