ATC orders seizure of PTI leaders’ properties in May 9 cases

LAHORE – An anti-terrorism court in Lahore has issued fresh directives in the May 9 arson cases involving senior PTI leaders. The ATC orders include the seizure of properties belonging to Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, and Omar Sarfraz Cheema.

According to the court decision, ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul also announced prison sentences for all four leaders. Dr Yasmin Rashid and Ejaz Chaudhry were each sentenced to 10 years in jail. In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs 600,000 on each of them.

The ATC orders were issued in connection with two separate cases related to violent incidents that occurred on May 9. Authorities stated that the actions were taken under anti-terrorism laws to ensure accountability for the unrest.

Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed and Omar Sarfraz Cheema also received the same punishment as their co-accused. Both were handed 10-year prison terms along with a fine of Rs 600,000 each.

Court officials confirmed that the seizure of properties will be carried out according to legal procedures. The properties are expected to be confiscated in the coming days as part of the enforcement of the ATC orders.

The May 9 incidents took place following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, triggering nationwide protests. In several cities, public and private properties were damaged, prompting strict legal action.

Legal experts say the latest decision highlights the government’s resolve to pursue those found guilty of violence. The sentences and property seizures are seen as a significant move in the ongoing legal proceedings stemming from the May 9 unrest.

Authorities have urged political groups to ensure peaceful conduct during protests, warning that any unlawful activity will result in strict consequences under anti-terrorism laws.
