Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continues to defend its jailed leader, Imran Khan, against numerous legal charges. In recent developments, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan condemned the convictions of nearly 200 party supporters for 2023 riots, calling them unjust. All cases against Imran Khan baseless and politically motivated: PTI reiterated in response to these sentences, which include 10-year prison terms. The party argues the verdicts aim to weaken its base ahead of planned rallies marking Khan’s third year of convictions. Khan’s legal troubles intensified after his 2022 ouster through a no-confidence vote, which he alleges was orchestrated by political rivals and the military.
Khan’s convictions include a 14-year sentence in the Toshakhana case for selling state gifts and a 10-year term in the cipher case for disclosing official secrets. PTI claims these charges lack evidence and are politically driven. The party’s supporters face arrests and crackdowns, with 200 detained in Lahore during protests on August 5, 2025, demanding Khan’s release.
