Punjab Rolls Out 'Panic Buttons' in Women’s Colleges to Boost Student Safety

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has introduced a new safety initiative aimed at protecting female students in the province. As part of this project, panic buttons are being installed in women’s colleges and universities to provide quick emergency alerts.

According to a PSCA spokesperson, the first phase of the plan has already been completed in Lahore. Panic buttons have been set up in 39 women’s educational institutions across the city. The authority confirmed that the project will expand to cover 450 women’s colleges across Punjab in the coming months.

These devices are designed to provide immediate assistance during emergencies. When pressed, the panic button sends an instant alert to the PSCA’s central control room. The alert is also linked to the Virtual Women Police Station, ensuring that law enforcement officers can respond quickly to the situation.

The spokesperson explained that this system will help create a safer environment for female students. The authority aims to strengthen safety measures in educational institutions by combining technology with rapid police response.

Currently, panic buttons are also operational at 101 different locations across Punjab. In Lahore alone, 122 key sites have been equipped with these safety devices. The PSCA said the project reflects its commitment to improving security for women in public spaces and institutions.

Officials believe that the initiative will not only improve safety but also increase confidence among female students and their families. By giving students direct access to help in emergencies, the system aims to reduce risks and ensure timely support.

With the gradual expansion of the project, the Punjab government expects panic buttons to play a vital role in building safer educational environments for women across the province.
