Victor Lindelof is close to joining Italian side Fiorentina as a free agent. This follows his departure from Manchester United this summer.
Lindelof ended his eight-year stint at Manchester United when his contract expired. He made over 280 appearances and helped win two domestic cups. Manchester United chose not to renew his deal.
Fiorentina are strongly interested. The club wants Lindelof to strengthen their defence. A key factor is the presence of David de Gea. De Gea is Lindelof’s former team-mate at Manchester United. He now plays for Fiorentina and is believed to be pushing for Lindelof’s arrival.
Negotiations are progressing. Lindelof is in talks with Fiorentina over personal terms. Two Premier League clubs have also shown interest. Still, Lindelof seems more attracted to a move to Italy.
Fiorentina are not the only side involved. Everton have also made an approach for Lindelof. However, the defender appears to prefer a switch to Serie A.
Lindelof said farewell to the club with heartfelt words. He thanked the fans and spoke about honouring the badge during his time at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have already shifted focus in the transfer market. The club signed several new attackers to boost their squad. Spending this summer has been significant, with major investment in young talent.
Looking back, Lindelof leaves Manchester United with two trophies and eight years of loyal service. Now, his next chapter could begin in Florence. A move to Fiorentina would reunite him with De Gea and offer a fresh start in Serie A. The deal is advancing as the summer window draws to a close.
