Journalist Matiullah Jan has claimed that former prime minister Imran Khan is facing health problems while in jail. According to Jan, Khan is suffering from a hearing condition that requires careful management.
In a YouTube video, the journalist said doctors had warned that a patient with this condition must avoid exposure to loud noise and music. Such sounds, they cautioned, could worsen the issue and further damage hearing. At the same time, doctors advised against complete silence, as it might also harm the patientβs condition and mental health.
Jan added that people with similar conditions often experience difficulty sleeping. He quoted medical experts who said that isolation could negatively affect both physical and psychological well-being.
Referring to Khanβs medical records, Jan disclosed that an ENT panel had examined the jailed leader on August 12 and recommended βsupportive management.β This indicated that his illness was being taken seriously by doctors.
Although the journalist did not specify the diagnosis, reports earlier this year suggested that Imran Khan was suffering from tinnitus.
This is a hearing disorder where a person hears ringing, buzzing, or roaring sounds in the ears without any external source. In addition, Khan has reportedly developed high blood pressure, which could complicate his health further.
The former premier was arrested on August 5, 2023, after being convicted in the Toshakhana case and was initially shifted to Attock Jail. Later, following an Islamabad High Court order, he was transferred to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on September 27, 2023.
Despite being granted relief in some cases, Khan remains in custody due to his conviction in the Β£190 million Al Qadir Trust case. Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana sentenced him to 14 years in prison, while his wife Bushra Bibi was sentenced to seven years. Both were found guilty of corruption and misuse of authority.
At present, Imran Khan is being held in Adiala Jail under high security with B-class facilities due to his status as a former prime minister.
