İlkay Gündoğan Joins Galatasaray on Free Transfer

Gudogan to Galatasaray

İlkay Gündoğan has completed a free transfer from Manchester City to Turkish club. The experienced midfielder signed a two-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2027.

Gündoğan, 34, returns to Turkey, the country of his heritage, after a successful career in Germany, England, and Spain. He began his professional career at 1. FC Nürnberg, later moving to Borussia Dortmund. In 2016, he joined Manchester City, where he played over 350 matches, scoring 65 goals and winning multiple trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League.

Despite offers from other clubs, Gündoğan chose Galatasaray. He said joining the club fulfills a childhood dream. His experience and leadership are expected to strengthen Galatasaray’s midfield.

At Galatasaray, Gündoğan will earn a net salary of €4.5 million per year. The club expects him to provide both skill and guidance to younger players. His presence is seen as a boost for Galatasaray’s domestic league campaign and European competitions.

Fans welcomed the signing enthusiastically. Gündoğan’s arrival adds depth and quality to the squad, while also bringing international experience to a team aiming for major trophies this season.

With Gündoğan now part of the squad, Galatasaray hopes to challenge for the league title and make a strong impression in Europe. His leadership and technical ability could be key to achieving these goals.
