President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday paid rich tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistanβs armed forces. They reaffirmed the nationβs commitment to its defence and sovereignty on the 60th Defence and Martyrs Day.
In their separate messages, the President, PM, and services chiefs highlighted September 6 as a day of courage, unity, and resilience. They recalled the sacrifices of the 1965 war and the continued resolve of the nation against external and internal challenges.
Presidentβs Message
President Zardari called September 6 a βglorious chapterβ in Pakistanβs history. He honoured the soldiers and citizens who defended the nation with unmatched courage. Referring to Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos launched in May 2025, he said the armed forces once again proved their bravery.
The president stressed the importance of strengthening modern defence capabilities against new threats, including hybrid warfare and disinformation. He reaffirmed Pakistanβs principled stance on Kashmir and Palestine, urging the international community to act for peace. He also praised the families of martyrs, saying their sacrifices will always inspire the nation.
Prime Ministerβs Message
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said September 6 remains etched in history as a symbol of unity and strength. He praised the armed forces and citizens for standing together in 1965 and reaffirmed Pakistanβs readiness to protect its sovereignty.
Highlighting Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, Marqa e Haq, the premier commended the Pakistan Army, Navy, and Air Force for their professionalism. He warned against Indian provocations and stressed the need for stronger defence capabilities.
The prime minister also linked economic stability to national security. He urged the nation to rise above political differences and pursue self-reliance. He reiterated solidarity with Kashmiris and Palestinians, condemning ongoing human rights violations.
Armed Forcesβ Tribute
In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the armed forces salute martyrs, veterans, and their families. It said September 6 reflects the resolve of soldiers and citizens who stood united against aggression.
The statement added that the armed forces have always defended the country and supported people during natural disasters. It pledged full support for victims of ongoing floods and warned against any attempt to disrupt peace.
