Qatar Slam Netanyahu’s Gaza: Regional Leaders Condemn Threats

Egypt and Qatar have strongly criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over comments suggesting Palestinians in Gaza might be displaced. The remarks were described as a serious violation of international law.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Netanyahu’s statements reflect “ongoing attempts to prolong escalation in the region and perpetuate instability while avoiding accountability for Israeli violations in Gaza.” Cairo warned that any forced displacement of Palestinians would be a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law” and amount to war crimes. Egypt emphasized it would not allow Palestinian displacement through its borders, calling the issue a “red line that cannot be crossed.”

Qatar also slammed Netanyahu’s Gaza remarks, condemning them as part of Israel’s “collective punishment” strategy against Palestinians. Doha’s Foreign Ministry said such policies would not succeed in forcing Palestinians to leave their land or surrender their legitimate rights. The statement called on the international community to oppose Israel’s “extremist and provocative policies.”

Netanyahu, in an interview with the Israeli Telegram channel Abu Ali Express, claimed “half of the population wants to leave Gaza” and suggested opening the Rafah border temporarily. He argued this would not constitute “mass expulsion,” though his remarks sparked widespread alarm in the region.

Both Egypt and Qatar are actively mediating efforts to broker a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, while also facilitating humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza. Analysts say Netanyahu’s comments risk undermining ongoing peace and relief efforts.

Al Jazeera correspondent Hamdah Salhut, reporting from Amman, described the remarks as “incredibly controversial,” noting that the strong condemnation from Qatar and Egypt highlights regional concerns over potential forced displacement.

The international community continues to monitor developments closely, emphasizing the protection of civilians and adherence to international law. Qatar slam Netanyahu’s Gaza stance underscores the growing regional opposition to policies perceived as threatening Palestinian rights.

This episode adds tension to the delicate diplomatic efforts in the region, with Qatar and Egypt reinforcing that any attempt to force Palestinians from Gaza will not be tolerated.
