Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday that Russia has no intention of seeking revenge against the West. Speaking to students at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, he stressed that anger and revenge are “bad advisers.”
Lavrov explained that Moscow will not reject opportunities to work with Western countries again. “When our former partners come to their senses and wish to return, we will not push them away,” he said. However, he noted that conditions must be set to ensure no risks are created for key sectors of the Russian economy.
He emphasized that Russia is prepared for dialogue and is willing to work “honestly” with all nations. According to him, this approach was demonstrated during the Alaska summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on August 15.
The Anchorage meeting marked the first direct encounter between American and Russian leaders since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict more than three years ago. Lavrov said the summit showed Washington’s understanding of the need to resolve disputes based on mutual respect and national interests.
He pointed out that discussions also touched on addressing the root causes of the Ukraine war. Lavrov underlined Moscow’s readiness to explore equal cooperation with the US and other countries.
He mentioned potential areas of collaboration, including the Arctic, liquefied natural gas, and space. He also highlighted opportunities in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, saying both sides have shown interest.
Lavrov concluded by reaffirming that Russia seeks balanced and respectful ties with the world. He said Moscow is open to partnerships that focus on mutual benefit and long-term stability.
