ABU DHABI – Afghanistan defeated Hong Kong by 94 runs in the opening match of the Asia Cup 2025. Hong Kong, chasing 189, was restricted to just 94 for 9 wickets.

For Afghanistan, Azmatullah Omarzai and Sediq Atal led the batting charge. Omarzai scored a rapid 53 off 21 balls, while Atal remained unbeaten on 73. Mohammad Nabi added 33 runs, contributing to Afghanistan’s total of 188 for 6 in 20 overs. Captain Rashid Khan stayed not out on 3.

Afghanistan’s bowlers dominated Hong Kong’s innings. Gulbadin Naib and Fazalhaq Farooqi claimed 2 wickets each. Azmatullah Omarzai, Noor Ahmad, and Rashid Khan picked up 1 wicket apiece, dismantling Hong Kong’s batting lineup.

Hong Kong struggled despite Babar Hayat’s 39-run effort. Captain Yasim Murtaza managed 16, while other batsmen contributed minimally. Ayush Shukla and Ateeq Iqbal remained unbeaten with 1 run each. Several players were dismissed without scoring, highlighting Afghanistan’s strong bowling performance.
