Karachi is in shock after the arrest of a local sharbat seller accused of sexually abusing over 100 minor girls. The case has sent waves of horror through the city.
How the suspect was caught
The accused was apprehended by locals in the Qayyumabad area before being handed over to Defense Police. The breakthrough came when a young survivor took a USB drive from the suspect’s home and gave it to a nearby shopkeeper. The drive contained disturbing videos, prompting local residents to detain him immediately.
Confession to police
During police interrogation, the suspect, originally from Abbottabad and living in Karachi since 2016, admitted to sexually abusing girls aged seven to 13. South SSP Mahzoor Ali confirmed that the crimes began in 2016 and intensified from 2019 onwards. The suspect also revealed that some victims were forced to bring other girls to him, and several children were abused repeatedly.
Targeting the most vulnerable
Police stated that the suspect primarily targeted daughters of domestic workers and maids. He exploited their vulnerability by posing as a sherbat seller and occasionally giving them small amounts of money.
Documenting the crimes
Authorities discovered that the accused recorded almost 100 videos of his assaults. He also maintained a personal diary noting the names of his victims and the dates of the attacks, further documenting his criminal acts.
Evidence recovery and registered cases
Investigators recovered multiple videos from the suspect’s mobile phone. So far, four victims, including two sisters, have been formally identified, resulting in four registered cases. Medical examinations of the identified survivors are underway.
Investigating potential networks
Police are exploring whether the suspect acted alone or as part of a wider criminal network. Authorities are also investigating whether the videos were sold online for financial gain. The SSP mentioned a deceased friend of the suspect whose involvement remains unclear.
