ISLAMABAD β Pakistan strongly criticized Israel at the United Nations after Tel Aviv defended its recent strikes in Doha. The exchange came during a UN Security Council debate on the Middle East, organized by Pakistan, Algeria, and Somalia, and chaired by South Korea.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistanβs permanent representative to the UN, rejected Israelβs justification and condemned its actions as violations of international law. βIt is unacceptable for an occupier and serial violator of the UN Charter to disrespect this Council,β he told the 15-member body.
The Pakistani envoy noted that Israel was using baseless accusations to mask its own actions. He emphasized that Israel repeatedly defies international organizations, threatens human rights groups, and ignores rulings from the ICJ and ICC. He described Israelβs behavior as βthe worst kind of state terrorismβ witnessed in Gaza and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Responding to Israeli claims linking the incident to the U.S. raid on Osama bin Laden, Ambassador Ahmad clarified that the analogy was false. He said Pakistanβs position on that incident has always been clear and publicly available.
He stressed that Pakistan has been on the front line of the global fight against terrorism, playing a vital role in dismantling Al Qaeda.
Qatar also strongly condemned Israelβs September 9 strike on a residential compound in Doha that housed Hamas negotiators and their families. Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani called it a violation of sovereignty and warned that Israel was undermining peace efforts.
The Qatari leader questioned Israelβs motives, pointing out that mediators in conflicts, such as the Talibanβs political office in Doha, were never targeted by the United States. He warned that Israelβs actions were destabilizing the region and sabotaging diplomacy.
Ambassador Ahmad concluded that Israelβs strikes were aimed at derailing peace and prolonging civilian suffering. He urged the Security Council to hold Israel accountable and prevent further escalation in the region.
