Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to visit the United States on September 22 to attend the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. During the visit, the PM is expected to hold a high-level meeting with US President Donald Trump.
According to sources, the PM will first travel to the United Kingdom on September 20 before flying to the US. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will accompany him to discuss bilateral and regional matters.
The PMβs visit aims to focus on regional security, the Palestine conflict, and strengthening Pakistanβs diplomatic ties amid ongoing global tensions. The meeting with President Trump is likely to take place on the sidelines of the UNGA session.
This engagement would follow Trumpβs earlier interactions with Pakistanβs military leadership, including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the White House in June. Trump praised Pakistanβs role in maintaining regional peace and highlighted the countryβs expertise regarding Iran.
During the visit, PM Shehbaz will also hold discussions with US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to address economic cooperation and security issues. These talks aim to reinforce Pakistan-US relations and ensure continued collaboration on global challenges.
The PMβs participation in the UNGA will include meetings with other international leaders, furthering Pakistanβs diplomatic outreach. Officials said the PM will emphasize the importance of dialogue and peaceful resolution of regional conflicts.
With this visit, the PM hopes to advance Pakistanβs interests on the global stage, strengthen bilateral partnerships, and address key economic and security concerns.
