PM Shehbaz Sharif Joins Muslim World’s United Front Against Israel in High-Stakes Doha Summit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left for Qatar on Monday to attend an emergency Arab-Islamic summit. The meeting was called in response to Israeli airstrikes on Doha and the ongoing crisis in Palestine.

The summit is hosted in Doha under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which represents 57 member states. Leaders, senior officials, and heads of governments from across the Muslim world are attending.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the summit has been convened to address several key issues. These include Israel’s strikes on Qatar, its occupation of Gaza, the expansion of settlements in the West Bank, and the forced displacement of Palestinians.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar joined a preparatory meeting in Doha on Sunday. The session of OIC foreign ministers finalized a draft resolution that condemns Israel’s actions and sets the agenda for the summit.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, speaking ahead of the meeting, urged the global community to hold Israel accountable.

He described Israel’s actions as “crimes” against Palestinians and rejected what he called international “double standards.” He also stressed that Israeli aggression would not derail Qatar’s mediation efforts with Egypt and the United States.

The summit has drawn strong participation, with more than 50 OIC member states represented. Leaders such as Iranian President Masoud Pazishkian, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are attending.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Doha on Sunday. However, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s participation remains uncertain.

Diplomats said the draft resolution under discussion denounces Israel’s attack on Qatar as a “destabilizing escalation.” It also rejects Israeli plans to impose “a new reality” on the region. While sanctions are not part of the draft, amendments may be considered before final approval.

By attending, Shehbaz Sharif has underscored Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Palestine and joining international calls for justice. The summit is seen as a powerful show of Arab and Islamic unity during a time of crisis.
